Charting Fear

Hey–I’ve got a new book out. Solitary. Buy it. Share it with friends. Spread the word if you like it.

Okay, got that out of my system. At least for tonight.
Wanted to share something I’m going to do for book 2 of The Solitary Tales, Gravestone. I’m currently writing it and closing in on the finish. I’m feeling good about it, but know there’s a lot more work that needs to be done, both before I actually write the last sentence and then after I hand it in to my editor.
One thing I’m going to start doing is charting the scary moments in Solitary. I know them but I want to chart them out and compare them to Gravestone. I don’t want Gravestone to have a lot more or a lot less freaky scenes.
Writing is not a science and every book is different, including books in a series. I’m hoping that each book in this series will have a different flavor and different vibe. Yet I’m also wanting each book to give the reader a similar experience.
To be honest, I can’t tell if Gravestone is darker and scarier than Solitary or not.
Thus the Fear Chart. We’ll see how that goes.
I can say this. Book 3 will have less fear and a little more humor (believe it or not). And Book 4 will be terrifying.
That’s the plan anyway.
But plans can always change.

  1. If you are short on creepy stuff for Gravestone, just throw in some more scenes with Aunt Alice and her mannequins.

By the way, I loved the humor in book one. Glad to hear that's going to continue.

Knock it out of the park, Travis! I can't wait for Gravestone!

  2. Travis,

I just finished Solitary and I absolutely loved it. Now I can't wait for the next book in your series as well. I actually am reviewing your book on my book blog on August 21st and here's the link. Would love to have you stop by. I love your writing style being a huge fan of writers like Ted Dekker, Stephen King and Frank Peretti, you are definitely in the same ranks. Keep on writing as there are huge fans out there that really appreciate what you write.

    Love and Hugs ~ Kat
