Always (Writing Tip #52)

There will always be an author who has more sales than you do (unless you’re initials begin with J.K.).

There will always be one who gets more interviews.

There will always be a more witty writer.

There will always be an author with better hair than you.

There will always be younger authors. And older authors.

There will always be authors who win more awards than you do. (AKA those who win awards)

There are those with 64,000 more “fans” on Facebook page (he who must not be named).
There will always be writers far deeper than you. Writers far more shallow.
There will always be marketing geniuses. There are those who should do author tours.
There will ALWAYS be authors who are flat out BETTER WRITERS THAN YOU and who don’t have to use ALL CAPS to prove it.

Know that all you can do is all you can do.
Write the best book possible. Work as hard as you can to spread the word. And let those always fall by the wayside.

  1. Having at least one J in your name helps. JK Rowling. John Grisham. Jerry Jenkins (he got the double whammy). So yes, you're already ahead of the pack!
