Flash Sideways

Last year, a promising writer I know spent a good portion of the year working on a novel.

This opening quote sets the tone:
“They told me that you had gone totally insane, and that your methods were unsound.”—Apocalypse Now
This unpublished author wrote and rewrote this novel. All 97,680 words.
His goal: to write the most terrifying novel imaginable.
Yet, like most beginning writers, he lost his way a bit. So he set the project aside.
I just heard that he’s going to start rewriting his story. With input from his agent and others such as yours truly, he’s starting over. Not from scratch, but building on what he had and reworking the story.
I think he’s got a good chance at a publisher signing him up. We’ll see. I’m rooting for him. The story still gives me chills.
