Gone Baby Gone

I saw this movie Saturday night. I’ve got to say–for all the movies released in 2007, and there were a lot of powerful ones, this was one of my favorites. I wasn’t expecting to be so moved and shocked. Perhaps being a father of a 15-month old helps, since the movie is about a young girl being kidnapped.

The direction (by Ben Affleck) was amazing. Great score, great story with a few things I never saw coming (thanks to Dennis LeHane), great acting (Casey Affleck in his second great performance of the year), and all around great movie-making.
This isn’t a feel-good pic of the year (like Juno, for instance). But it’s powerful. I liked it even more than Mystic River, another Dennis LeHane story.
